SEES Products and workpackages


 

SEES project is related to:

  • Sustainable Surface Transport
  • Advanced design and production techniques
  • Development of strategies and processes to clean dismantling and recycling of vehicles.
Emphasis will be put on clean, cost and energy effective processes, innovative dismantling and recycling operations.

Scientific objectives:

  • SEES develops innovative scientific approaches (new “intelligent” materials for dismantling, new dismantling & EES/ plastics recycling possibilities, integrated assessment of automotive EES, combined environmental & economical assessment & scenarios, innovative Design guidelines & Manuals, material- and product-oriented approach considering technical/ economical synergies between different recycling value chains)

Technical objectives:

  • SEES carries out real tests on the new dismantling & recycling technologies. SEES develops new automotive EES prototypes, using new “intelligent” materials. SEES provides demonstration activities for dismantling & EES/ plastics recycling.
  • SEES improves the competitiveness of the recycling value chain (from collectors, shredders, dismantlers to EES, plastics and metals recyclers), most of them SME.
  • SEES increases the competitiveness of EES manufactures due to the added value of the "recyclable" product and reduce the costs associated to end-of-life car treatment.

Societal objectives:

  • SEES considers societal effects of the newly developed dismantling and recycling technologies(new jobs, cleaner dismantling and recycling working conditions, SME).
  • SEES minimizes life cycle impacts, raw materials consumption and disposal necessity (landfill/ incineration), phases out hazardous substances (better working conditions, health) and carries out courses (better skills).

Policy objectives:

  • SEES integrates the European ELV directive on sustainable dismantling and recycling. However, other directives like WEEE, RoHS and draft EUP are also touched by the project.
  • SEES carries out the research on European level to consider the different situation of the automotive dismantling and recycling systems in member states. The overall EoLV recycling target has to be reached at community level but maybe the targets could be reached better in certain member states.
  • SEES guarantees the relation with other international Research Activities by the involvement of some of theproposed partners in other EU projects and networks.
  • SEES takes account of research activities at national level by continuous integration of national research results in the project and contacts/ workshops/ demonstration on regional level.
